Thanks Polly! See what happens when we think we know? ;-)
I do have an ulterior motive for finding a picture of Isaac… his birthday fluctuates in the census reports… until he gets near the end of his life and claims the same birthday as MY g-g-grandfather Daniel! Nobody has ever mentioned “Uncle Dan” had a twin and he talked a LOT! Can you ask your mother if she ever heard of Isaac having a twin? Still looking for a confirmed picture of Isaac. ;-)

Well - forget all that I just posted about this photo. My mother remembers it well and having just spoken with her - she confirmed it is Andrew Jackson!

I just got back (7/12/08) from a week of serious research in Washington County, PA and I feel like a really know these Leonards - what wonderful people! Shannon's g-g-g-grandfather (mine too), Issac Leonard, lived in the beautiful Villiage of Zollarsville and is buried right outside of the Villiage in Horn Cemetery (formerly the Methodist Church Cemetery - where he was an active member - prior to the church burning down). He was a VERY prominent citizen of Washington County PA as was his wife, Amanda Cox and her family. I think Issac would have had his picture taken with Amanda if she were living (which she wasn't between 1910 - 1920). Considering the cost of photgraphs, the age of the gentleman in the photo, and knowing that Issac wanted to leave his mark on history (very large, expensive tombstone located in the middle front section of the cemetery with his Freemason affiliation symbol planted right in the top middle section of the stone), my guess is this is Issac (not g-g grandfather Andrew Jackson). Another indication that this is probably Issac and not Andrew is that Issac and the Leonards that proceeded him in Washington County were primarily farmers (plantation owners - as the farms are referred to in some of the old wills and deeds). Andrew - Issac's son - is the first generation to branch out and be primarily an "employee" or laborer as they were called in the old census records. So the clothing and setting of the photo fit with the "gentleman farmer" - which is the image Issac would have wanted to project. However, there is no way of knowing for certain unless someone else remembers or has this photo.

He does, doesn't he? All we know for sure is that his picture hung in a log cabin outside of Zollarsville, Washington County, PA. Don't know of any family south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Mystery Leonard - his clothes resemble that of southern gentlemen in from 1870 to 1910. Do you know where Mr. Leonard lived. North or South?
