Hi Just found out about Westylvania and so many of the people listed are long lost relatives. Suppossedly, the Bates family were among Presbyterians who eventually came and settled in KY before 1800. They called their settlement"Pennsylvania Run" and had a church and a cemetery. I believe that some of these people were coopers and participants in the whiskey rebellion. Any ideas on where I can look for more info? Thanks so much!

Yeah, there's a little disestablishmentarianism in all of us. ;-)

Hi Jenn. Sorry to hear about your grandmother. “Ten Mile Country” is fast becoming one of my favorites.

First, yes, we natives know all about Westsylvania...in fact, our tourist agencies have some billboards up using Westsylvania...(and this half of the state would still gladly become its own entity...(who needs Philly anyway?)
Second, in general, a lot of the folks living west of the Alleghenies were quite rebellious and anti government, (not just the Leonards :) ) but it does not surprise me that the Leonards (and probably some Jennings' too) were right in the thick of things
Third, I think I have the book that is mentioned...
Fourth, I get notifications with a short paragraph of what is in the post but not the entire thing
Lastly, my grandmother, Anne Jennings, wife of Hobert Jennings, died on Wed.
